I recently went to a speech by Mark Allen in Boulder, where he
was talking about race day strategy. Before the speech began,
he introduced Culley Davis (CEO & Founder of TriGenix) to us
to talk about athlete nutrition. Mark and Culley have worked
together to come up with a nutritional system which addresses the
huge demands both top class and amateur athletes place on themselves.
Culley sent many of today's leading supplements to independent labs
to be tested and found that many didn't contain the nutrients they
proclaimed in this completely un-regulated market. This information
combined with the fact that according to Health Reports in the USA
in 1988, almost 70% of all deaths are nutrition related.....why
is it that in a country where obesity is a real problem can so many
people be dying from malnutrition? The answer lies in the
type and quality of food we are eating. Many commercial methods
of farming are depleting the soil of precious trace minerals and
then many of our foods are too refined further removing what little
nutritional value is in the produce in the first place. As
I was listening to the talk, I found myself thinking that I eat
a fairly healthy diet and avoid fast food but maybe this does make
some sense especially when I think of the quality of fruit and vegetables
you can buy in Asia. They went on to mention that athletes
sweat off up to 60 minerals and nutrients in prolonged workouts........ok,
this had to be even worse back home where you sweat profusely even
walking to the bus stop in summer. Shortage of these nutrients
is not only un-healthy but can be fatal and many professional athletes
in USA don't make it past 62 as opposed to the coach potato, who
on average lives to 77. I wonder what the figures would be
in Asia where fast food outlets are appearing on every street corner
and it is increasingly difficult to find affordable quality foods?
This was all good "food" for thought for me but I was
still skeptical when both Mark and Culley talked about how amazing
they felt once they created and started using the system.
Not one to be left out though, I jumped at the chance when they
offered my a month's supply to test out. It couldn't have
been better timing as I had just completed the 5430 Boulder 1/2
Ironman at altitude and would be embarking on an intense 4wks of
training for Ironman Canada....all at altitude, which makes it much
harder to recover from racing and training. The system consists
of four elements, a liquid providing vitamins, minerals, amino acids,
enzymes & phytonutrients and a Vita Pak delivering all your
vitamin and minerals requirements for the day are taken first thing
in the morning. Then before you key meal of the day, either
lunch or dinner, a fruit and vegetable pak which delivers the nutrients
from 46 different fruits and vegetables. In addition to this,
you can also take TriGenix Trainer during your long or very intense
workouts or post workout to aid recovery. This contains ADX7
which was developed in Russia for their Olympic athletes and helped
there squad to win 55 gold medals in the 1988 Olympics.
I had been warned I would probably not notice any difference for
a couple of weeks but then I should feel elevated energy levels,
improved recovery, less food cravings and a sense of well-being.
I started to notice that some mornings I was springing out of bed
and bouncing off the walls as though I had had ten cups of coffee
after about 10days. Interesting........especially when I looked
at the amount of training I had been doing and the fact I hadn't
increased my sleep levels. This pattern continued and I have
to say, I didn't once struggle to recover one day to another over
the 4wk period. As many of you may know, Siri (my coach) is
re-known for being a very tough task master and even she couldn't
believe whatever she threw at me, I was coming back for more day
after day. Now, I am not saying you can stop all your other
recovery methods like stretching, soaking legs etc but I firmly
believe TriGenix has helped me reach a whole new level of fitness,
allow my body to recover and become stronger than ever before.

Thanks to TriGenix - let's hope I can bring home a good result
at Ironman Canada.
