CLAIRE MURRAY – PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETE

Looking for a new challenge following a successful rugby career, I turned to triathlon eight years ago. I had no experience in swimming, cycling or running, but didn’t think that should hinder my dreams. I first represented Hong Kong in 2000 and now have six Asian Championships and one World Championship race under my belt. I gave up my full-time job with ING Bank NV in 2003 to set-up my own consulting & coaching business, allowing more time to focus on training & racing.

After three years of short course racing while trying to qualify for the Athens Olympics, I returned to long & middle distance competitions in 2004. I have been able to establish myself as Asia’s top long course female triathlete after placing 3rd in Ironman NZ in 2005. I love the challenge of triathlon racing, where I can utilize my mental & physical strengths as well as experience new places and cultures. In addition, I feel very lucky to be able to work with amateur athletes and help them achieve their dreams and goals on a daily basis.
